Hailing from the UK, West London-based songwriter-songstress Tayah is making waves in the industry through her unique brand of R&B, hip-hop and funk music. With her slinky, smooth, soulful vocals and easily relatable lyrics, Tayah’s music is a breath of fresh air to the British and international music scene. Featuring understated and spacey production, tracks such as ‘Vibe’ and ‘Never Left’ provided a taste of this talented artist’s casual and effortless charisma – but there’s more to come.
Combining Ella Mai’s vocal swagger, Victoria Monet’s personable songwriting and H.E.R.’s soul-filled artistry, Tayah is branching out on her own and bringing something new to the table with her music. Influenced by a wide collection of artists including Slum Village, Usher and Mary J. Blige, her sound is an intelligent infusion of reggae, rare groove and 70’s/80s funk that is rare to come by in a newly minted, up-and-coming artist.
At such a young age, Tayah has built more than a few noteworthy accolades and achievements. After sharing her freestyle and remix videos onto social media, some of her videos quickly found viral notability. More than just a singer and songwriter, Tayah has showcased her nuance in performing by playing live at the Powis Square Stage at the Notting Hill Carnival in 2018, as well as the main stage at the Lovebox Festival within the same year, alongside a set by Bollo Brook.
“And now we’re back just like we never left”, Tayah suavely croons on her last single, ‘Never Left’. Just like she sings, Tayah is back with her first debut EP, ‘Wonderer Of The West’. Inspired by family matters and her journey into adulthood, Tayah’s first project explores this young artist’s innate ‘wondering’ and ‘wandering’ spirit, having travelled far and wide to get to where she is today. A journey of self-reflection and re-discovery, ‘Wonderer Of The West’ has also been shaped by the need for solitude and turning inward in the wake of the ongoing pandemic.
Apart from performing and promoting songs off her new EP, she is now currently looking to collaborate with peers, and also explore what she could bring to the songwriting world.
Tayah’s debut EP, ‘Wonderer Of The West’ is now available on all platforms.
